On 19 August 2019, the European Centre for Democracy and Human Rights (ECDHR), with some assistance from Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) and the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD), launched a new and innovative website: The Cost of Freedom in Bahrain.
The website, which highlights the cases of Bahraini prisoners of conscience, is the first of its kind to be accessible to a wide, international audience. Information is provided in Spanish, French, and Italian. Its goal is to make raise public awareness and to make these vital cases more accessible for individuals in Europe, Latin America, and parts of Africa. The website also makes it easy for users to act in order to raise awareness of prisoners of conscience in Bahrain. They can choose to tweet or post on Facebook from the website, and can additionally send a letter to Members of Parliament or government officials to raise concerns about the human rights situation in Bahrain.
This website will allow the stories of Bahrain’s prisoners of conscience to be shared in multiple languages around the world, increasing pressure on the Bahraini government to immediately and unconditionally release them.
